                               The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey

On December 26, 1996, a six-year-old girl, JonBenét Ramsey, was murdered in her home. JonBenét was a child beauty queen. She came from a good family; her mother, Patsy, is a former beauty queen and her father, John, is a successful businessman. A three-page ransom note was found the morning of the murder. John Ramsey helped someone murder his daughter.

Evidence Toward Intruder

Handwriting examiners said that the handwriting in the ransom note matched no one that they had a handwriting sample of. The handwriting was similar to Patsy’s but it couldn’t be proven (Universal Quest).

DNA didn’t match anyone. The DNA was found under JonBenét’s fingernails and on her panties. “… The DNA could be totally unrelated to the case, since no skin or blood was found beneath the nails to indicate that JonBenét had scratched her killer.” (Thomas 124)

Evidence Toward John Ramsey

John Ramsey knew exactly where the body was. The basement had been searched but one door was locked and the police officer had failed to make sure that he checked that room. At around one o’clock in the afternoon John and two of his friends went on another search of the house. They started in the basement. The searched only a few places before John went straight to the boiler room and found JonBenét’s body (Schiller 15).

John didn’t hear anything that night. If someone would have broken in and took JonBenét out of her bed, John would have heard it. JonBenét was hit on the head and strangled before she could bleed to death. There had to be o lot of commotion going on.

In the Ramsey household, there was a notepad with paper similar to the type of paper the ransom note was written on. That lead many people to believe that the ransom note came from inside the house.

Evidence in Ransom Note

The ransom note started off with “Mr. Ramsey”. The only other times that names were used was when the note said, “Don’t try to grow a brain, John. You are not the only fat cat around so don’t think that killing would be difficult. Don’t underestimate us, John. Use that good southern common sense of yours. It is up to you now John!” (Thesmokinggun.com 3).

JonBenét was still in the house but yet she was being held for ransom. She was murdered and the murderer made it look as if it were a kidnapping.

The ransom note had to have taken plenty of time to write since it was three pages long. The writer had time to proof read it. “The two gentlemen… do [not] particularly…” (Thesmokinggun.com 2). Since the paper seemed to have come from inside the house the author risked getting caught while he/she wrote the long ransom note.

JonBenet Ramsey was killed on December 26, 1996 despite coming from a good family. She was a child beauty queen. If John Ramsey would tell everything he knew, justice could be served.
